Travelling with Cash
Travellers must declare cash of $10,000 or more (or the equivalent in another currency) that they are taking between Bermuda and any other country.
Cash includes:
- notes and coins
- bankers’ drafts
- cheques of any kind (including travellers’ cheques)
Persons travelling as a family need to declare cash over $10,000.
Declare cash
Make a cash declaration on a Customs Traveller Declaration (Customs Form 98 (4/16)) in accordance with the instructions. Travellers must give their cash declaration to a customs officer or deposit it in the receptacle provided.
Penalties
Imprisonment for up to 5 years or to a maximum fine of $100,000 or to both is the penalty for a false customs declaration. In addition any penalty, the cash will be liable to forfeiture.

Suspected proceeds of crime
Cash in any amount, whether declared or not, can be seized by customs officers if they have reasonable grounds to suspect a crime. They can keep the cash for 48 hours - after that they need a court order.
