Department Of Corrections Celebrates GED Class Of 2019
Recently, the Department of Corrections (DoP) celebrated the GED Class of 2019 with a graduation ceremony held at the Co-Educational Facility.
In attendance was the Minister of National Security, the Hon. Wayne Caines, JP, MP, Department of Corrections senior officials, and family members.
The successful graduates were:
- Daymon Simmons
- Dion Cholmondeley
- Detre’ Ford
- Andre’ Richardson
- Mikiel Thomas
Among the graduates is Daymon Simmons, who earlier this year successfully completed the DoP’s Violence Reduction Programme.
The classes were taught using a combination of service providers and DoP’s education personnel, consisting of: Education Officer Shawnette Somner, Dr. E. Glen Bascome, Mrs. Erlor Dean, Mr. Oladapo Frederick, Ms. Tonisha Key-Holmes, Mr. Stephen Lewis, Mrs. Daltonell Minors, Mr. Amoti Nyabongo and Mr. Duval Robinson.
At the graduation, Minister Caines said, “I want to congratulate you all on your accomplishments to date. We must all recognize the power of redemption and the importance of moving forward in a positive light. To the service providers and Department of Corrections officers and personnel that made this GED programme possible. Your support and commitment was integral to the success of these men, and I offer you my sincere thanks and appreciation”
The Department of Corrections offers the GED and Violence Reduction Programme to aid in the rehabilitation and eventual reintegration of individuals back into society.
