In advance of what is expected to be a busy recreational boating holiday weekend, the Ministry of Public Works is reminding residents about certain boating materials that are prohibited from inclusion with regular waste items.

Marine flares, boat batteries and waste oil should never be included with household waste nor in bus-stop, Parks Department or public dock waste bins. 

The composition of these items creates a health hazard for persons collecting from waste bins and for both the terrestrial and marine environmental.

All potentially hazardous materials should be taken to the Tynes Bay Public Drop-Off and deposited in specially marked bins so they will be disposed of safely. 

The Tynes Bay Public Drop-Off is free and open to drivers of private cars and Light Vans from 8.00 a.m. until 6.00 p.m. Monday thru Friday, from 7.00 a.m. until 7.00 p.m. on Saturday and from 1.00 p.m. until 6.00 p.m. on Sunday.

For flares, there is a bin located on the sidewalk outside of the main Tynes Bay building. Members of the public, may drive up and deposit flares in the specially marked blue bin without checking in at the weighbridge.
