September is National Recovery Month
The Department for National Drug Control (DNDC) under the auspices of the Ministry of Social Development and Sports will be observing September 2017 as National Recovery Month. Recovery Month is a US Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) – supported observance.
This month the DNDC, in conjunction with treatment agencies across the island, celebrate National Recovery Month. This September 2017 will be the 28th annual Recovery Month observance by SAMHSA. The Department will use this month to educate Bermuda residents about substance use, treatment and mental health services, which can enable those with a mental and/or substance use disorder to live a healthy and rewarding life. The observance reinforces the positive message that behavioral health is essential to overall health, prevention works, treatment is effective, and people can and do recover.
The theme for Recovery Month 2017 is Join the Voices for Recovery: Strengthen Families and Communities, which highlights the value of family and community support throughout recovery and invites individuals in recovery and their family members to share their personal stories and successes in order to encourage others.
This month we want to celebrate those individuals and their families who are committed to living a healthy and drug free lifestyle.
