The Premier, the Hon. David Burt, JP, MP, travelled to Barbados from February 19–21, 2025, to attend the 48th Regular Meeting of the Conference of CARICOM Heads of Government under the Chairmanship of Hon. Mia Mottley, SC, MP, Prime Minister of Barbados. The Premier was accompanied by MP Chris Famous.

This bi-annual meeting brought together the fifteen (15) CARICOM Member States and five (5) Associate Members, providing a platform for discussions on regional cooperation and development.

The Heads of Government addressed several critical issues affecting the region, including:

  • Food and Nutrition Security

  • Climate Change and Climate Finance

  • Digital Resilience

  • External Relations & the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME)

During the meeting, Premier Burt highlighted Bermuda’s leadership in financial services and digital innovation, emphasising opportunities for greater regional collaboration. He also reinforced Bermuda’s commitment to expanding trade with CARICOM partners, particularly in securing more affordable food imports, while reiterating that freedom of movement remains off the table for Bermuda. 

Additionally, the Premier participated in discussions on the impact of the new US Administration and global tariffs on import costs. Premier Burt returned to Bermuda on Saturday, February 22.
