Mini Cup Match

The Department of Sport and Recreation hosted the annual Mini Cup Match, sponsored by CG Insurance, at Bailey’s Bay Cricket Club (Sea Breeze Oval). Somerset were bowled out for 70 runs and St. George’s were all out for 44 runs. The match provided an exciting prelude to the official Cup Match holiday.

Minister of Tourism & Transport, Culture & Sport, the Hon. Owen Darrell, JP, MP, praised the occasion, saying, “The Mini Cup Match continues to be a celebration of our sporting culture and a powerful way to invest in the next generation of Bermudian cricketers. It’s inspiring to see young talent mentored by some of the island’s finest, both past and present.”

Minister of Youth, Social Development and Seniors, the Hon. Tinee Furbert, JP, MP, highlighted the event, stating, “Events like the Mini Cup Match are essential for nurturing our youth, not just in sport, but in confidence, discipline, and teamwork. It’s uplifting to see our young people step into their potential.”

The event featured cricket legends Irvine Romaine and Onias Bascome, who coached the young players alongside Cricket West Indies coaches Brittany Cooper and Ryan Hinds, with the support of CG Insurance.

This year’s Mini Cup Match was a celebration of heritage, mentorship, and community spirit.
