April 26th marks World Intellectual Property Day and the Registry General will join other Intellectual Property Personnel around the world to celebrate World Intellectual Property Day with a view to raise awareness.
The theme for World Intellectual Property Day 2017 is “Innovation – Improving Lives” which encourages us to reflect on how innovation improves lives.
Registrar General Aubrey Pennyman stated, “This year we are encouraging local inventors and creators to show the world their extraordinary innovations. Everyday ordinary people create extraordinary things that modernize, simplify, improve our lives and make the world better.
“Innovations take a myriad of forms, from the mundane to the seemingly miraculous: A billboard in Peru that harvests water from air, supplying the local community with clean drinking water; a 3 D-printer at an American University that regenerates damaged human tissue; cutting-edge assistive technologies from the Russian Federation to help people with disabilities perform everyday tasks. (World Intellectual Property Organization 2017).”
The Registrar General added, “We reflect locally on the Seabin Global Pilot Programme that will install floating seabins in our waters to collect floating rubbish, in particular, plastics, oils, fuels, and detergents, that has global implications. The seabin is a water-filtering system is a solution to tackle our current litter problem.
“Innovation is a human force that is limitless; problems are transformed into progress and boundaries are never-ending, creating extraordinary and revolutionary capabilities.”
