Refining Vehicle Inspections at TCD: Reducing the Red Tape

Ministry of Transport

The Bermuda Transport Control Department (TCD), is introducing changes to vehicle inspection processes aimed at simplifying procedures and focusing exclusively on safety. These updates will make it easier for vehicle owners to meet inspection requirements while maintaining the highest safety standards on Bermuda’s roads. The focus will shift away from cosmetic inspections, prioritizing the safety of the vehicle instead. Cosmetic issues that do not result in safety concerns will not result in a failed examination.

Minister of Transport Wayne Furbert stated, “For years, vehicle inspections included not only safety checks but also an emphasis on cosmetic aspects such as spotless exteriors, dent-free panels, and pristine paintwork. Vehicle owners often have to invest significant time and money preparing their vehicles for inspection, which can be stressful and expensive.

“While we have made significant progress over the years, we recognize that there is still room to further streamline our services and reduce unnecessary red tape. By shifting our focus solely to safety requirements, we are making the inspection process more straightforward for vehicle owners. Additionally, these changes will reduce financial burdens on vehicle owners, particularly during this current economic climate. The changes reflect the Ministry’s ongoing commitment to modernizing services and enhancing the overall customer experience.”
