Public Invited to Apply for the Government’s Fintech Training Programme

The Economic Development Department (EDD) is happy to announce the launch of the 3rd Annual Fintech Training Programme. Interested persons are encouraged to register by the 5 June 2024 deadline.

Now in its third year, the Annual Fintech Training Programme continues its mission to equip Bermudians from all walks of life, including students, career changers, or those looking to upskill themselves with the skills and knowledge necessary to join and excel in the burgeoning fintech industry.

This Programme is a unique collaboration between the Economic Development Department (EDD), the Department of Workforce Development (DWD), and various industry leaders. It underscores the EDD's commitment to fostering local talent and supporting the development of a robust fintech ecosystem in Bermuda in a multi-pronged way.

Firstly, through a globally recognised FinTech Curriculum, the participants will delve into their chosen online classes based on selections recommended by the EDD. The aim is to provide the learners with a comprehensive understanding of how they can leverage technology to modernise financial systems.

The second component of the annual FinTech Training Programme comprises DWD readiness and professionalism modules. These free online courses enhance participants' soft skills, including project management, cybersecurity, change management, and digital citizenship. This portion of the training prepares participants for real-world challenges, ensuring they are ready to thrive in professional environments.

Finally, participants get to network with industry leaders, including executives from local Digital Asset Business Act-licensed companies. This is crucial for building professional relationships and gaining insights from industry trailblazers.

The Hon. Jason Hayward, JP, MP, Minister of Economy & Labour, said, "The Government of Bermuda is steadfast in developing Bermuda's FinTech ecosystem and programmes like this are vital for nurturing local talent. By investing in education and creating a supportive regulatory environment, we can ensure that Bermudians are well-equipped to seize opportunities in this burgeoning sector. We aim to build a vibrant and sustainable fintech ecosystem that benefits all our citizens.

Maryem Biadillah, Acting Director of the Economic Development Department, said, "I am pleased to witness the continued evolution of FinTech and its pivotal role in bridging the gap between traditional financial services and the digital future. As we embrace this new era, we are committed to confirming Bermuda's position as a leading FinTech hub. The knowledge and skills Bermudians gain through this Programme are instrumental in achieving that goal."

Malika Cartwright, Director of the Department of Workforce Development, explained, "The readiness and professionalism modules offered by DWD prepare participants for success. We focus on developing essential soft skills that are critical in today's fast-paced work environment. This holistic approach ensures that our participants are not only knowledgeable but also professional and ready to make significant contributions to FinTech.”

Nevine Lewis, Bermuda Country Manager at Digital Currency Group (DCG), said, "Networking is a cornerstone of career development, especially in the new and rapidly growing FinTech sector. By connecting with leaders who are at the forefront of innovation, participants gain invaluable insights and opportunities that can propel their careers locally and globally. The relationships forged during this Programme will serve as a strong foundation for their future success."

Owen Millett, a 2023 programme participant, shared his experience, saying, “The FinTech Training Programme last year was truly transformative, exceeding my expectations. It provided me with invaluable insights into the intricate world of finance, igniting a newfound passion and drive within me. The knowledge and skills I gained have not only enriched my understanding but have also fueled my motivation to excel beyond measure in the financial realm.”
