As Bermuda prepares to celebrate Cup Match, the Ministry of Health encourages residents and visitors to enjoy the celebrations safely and responsibly.

Minister of Health, Kim Wilson, said: “Cup Match is a time of joy and reflection for all of us. Whether you're cheering from the stands, relaxing on the beach, or out on the water, be mindful of your health.”

The Ministry of Health advises everyone to take care in the summer sun and protect themselves by applying broad-spectrum sunscreen regularly, wearing lightweight protective clothing, and staying in the shade during peak UV hours.

With the summer heat in full swing, it's essential to stay hydrated and nourished. Drink plenty of water throughout the day, especially if you're consuming alcohol or spending time in the sun and enjoy wholesome meals to maintain your energy levels. If drinking, do so in moderation and always plan for safe transportation; never drive under the influence.

Be alert to signs of heat-related illness, such as dizziness or rapid heartbeat. If you feel unwell, take steps to cool down immediately.

Practice safe food handling by keeping chilled items cool and being especially cautious with seafood and meats in warmer conditions. Wash your hands often and maintain good hygiene when preparing or serving food.

Minister Wilson reminds the public that COVID-19 continues to circulate in our community: “I urge everyone to take sensible precautions, especially to safeguard our seniors and those with underlying health issues.

“If you're feeling under the weather, especially with cold or flu-like symptoms, please stay home to prevent the spread of illness. Wearing a mask in crowded indoor settings or when visiting loved ones can offer an extra layer of care for those who need it most.

“Wash your hands regularly with soap and water or use hand sanitiser and always cover coughs or sneezes with a tissue or your elbow.

“Let’s all do our part to keep Cup Match healthy and festive for everyone.”
