Today, the Ministry of Economy and Labour, the Hon. Jason Hayward, JP, MP, released the 2021 Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Profile from the Department of Statistics (attached).
The Minister explained, “The profile shows the core indicators on the use of ICT by businesses with comparisons between 2020 and 2021.”
Highlighted below are some of the 2021 year-over-year changes:
- In 2021, the ICT sector accounted for 2.6 per cent of the Gross Domestic Product at current prices, up from 2.5per cent in 2020.
- Capital investment in ICT increased 32.3 per cent from $47 million to $63 million.
- Bermuda’s ICT trade deficit expanded by 21.0 per cent and stood at $88 million.
- ·Businesses leading use of the internet was sending or receiving emails (93.4 per cent).
- In 2021, Wi-Fi-enabled devices were used by 83.1 per cent of businesses intheir daily operations, up 2.0 percentage points from 2020.
- Among ICT-related jobs, software and application developers and analysts earned the highest median income of $130,667 in 2021.
