Government Invests in Community Mental Health Support

The Ministry of Health is pleased to announce grant funding awarded to the following organisations and initiatives in the 2024/25 fiscal year. Increasing funding for mental health services was a commitment outlined in the 2025 Throne Speech. This commitment reflects the Ministry of Health’s ongoing efforts to promote mental wellness, enhancing infrastructure, reducing stigma and barriers to care, as well as improving access to support.

  • AGE CONCERN provides critical support and advocacy for Bermuda residents aged 50+. Allocated funds are being used in a collaborative effort aimed at empowering older adults, caregivers, and professionals with the tools, knowledge, and resources necessary to enhance the mental health and quality of life of Bermuda’s Seniors.
  • FAMILY CENTRE – The Family Centre (“the Centre”) is dedicated to improving the lives of Bermuda’s families and provide innovative mental health counselling services for children, teens, families, community outreach programmes, and advocacy initiatives. The Ministry was pleased to provide a grant to support the Centre’s Intensive Counselling Services programme, which is free of charge and designed to provide early detection and intervention of mental health challenges in children ages 4 to 18 years.
  • WOMEN’S RESOURCE CENTRE – The Women’s Resource Centre provides prevention, crisis, and advocacy services to the women in Bermuda. Grant funding was provided to support their comprehensive Therapeutic Services Programme, which encompasses individualised counselling, community and support groups, and relevant mindfulness and wellness activities.
  • MEN’S ACCESS TO SUPPORT AND COUNSELLING (MASC) – MASC provides therapeutic engagement and support to men across all aspects of their lifespan through individual and group counselling, support groups, and vocational assessments, while also collaborating with schools and other mental health stakeholders. Financial constraint has been identified as a barrier to too many men in their ability to access mental health support. Grant funding provided to MASC will ensure men of all ages will be able to access mental health support, regardless of socio-economic standing.
  •  BERMUDA COLLEGE FOUNDATION/YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH PLAN - The grant provided to the Bermuda College Foundation is supporting the establishment of the Youth Mental Health Plan Team (“YMHP Team”) and the implementation of this critical plan. The YMHP Team is working collaboratively with community stakeholders to enact the Youth Mental Health Plan that addresses four components for Bermuda’s youth: mental health prevention and early intervention, stigma and mental health literacy, access to services for youth and their families.

“Addressing Bermuda’s mental health challenges requires collaboration and teamwork,” says the Hon. Kim Wilson, JP MP, Minister of Health. “The organisations that received grants from the Ministry of Health will be measured against the specific objectives and expected outcomes that were identified within their grant applications. This will enable the Ministry to see and report out the tangible results from its investment into the mental wellness of our community.”

“By investing in these organisations and initiatives, the Government ensures support is available for everyone, regardless of age, gender, or socio-economic status because every individual deserves access to the resources that allow them to maintain their mental well-being and live fulfilling lives. There is no health without mental health,” she concludes, “and the Ministry will continue to fight stigma
