Future Leaders Press Conference 2025

Future Leaders Press Con

Good afternoon to the Future Leaders team, students, welcome to the Cabinet Office for the launch of the 2025 Future Leaders Summer Programme.

Since its founding in 2017, the Future Leaders Programme has become a cornerstone of youth development in Bermuda. It provides a unique platform for young Bermudians to explore critical social issues, engage in hands-on learning, and gain mentorship from some of the island’s most inspiring role models. More than 100 students have passed through this programme, each of them leaving better prepared to take on leadership roles in their schools, workplaces, and communities.

This year’s cohort of 17 students will spend the next three weeks delving into topics that matter deeply to Bermuda’s future: inequality, identity, leadership, and civic responsibility. They will participate in workshops, community service projects, and mentorship opportunities designed not just to inform them, but to empower them to act.

The programme’s impact goes far beyond the classroom. Graduates have returned to mentor new participants, served in leadership roles, and continued to make their mark on our community. Their success is a testament to what happens when we invest in our young people and give them the tools to succeed.

This Government has placed education and youth empowerment at the heart of our agenda. From increasing scholarships and apprenticeships to introducing the Bermuda College Promise Programme and modernising our education system, we are committed to ensuring every young Bermudian has the tools to thrive. The Future Leaders Programme perfectly complements this vision, bridging what students learn in the classroom with the skills and confidence needed to lead in the real world.

That is why the Government of Bermuda is once again proud to provide $25,000 in support for this programme. This funding ensures that every student accepted can participate without financial barriers or concerns about what it will cost.

To the students here today: your decision to join Future Leaders speaks volumes about your drive and belief in what you can contribute to Bermuda. Over these next three weeks, I urge you to take full advantage of the experiences offered, ask questions, build connections, and challenge yourselves to think boldly about how you can help shape the Bermuda you want to see.

This programme does not happen by chance; it is the product of dedication, care, and a genuine belief in the power of mentorship and education.

To the Future Leaders team led by Founder Ryan Robinson Perinchief and ably helped by assistant director Seon Tatem - and Future Leader alumni, thank you for giving back and for your continued support of Bermuda’s young people. The next generation will shape Bermuda’s future, and I have every confidence that these young persons here will be among the leaders who carry our island into an even brighter future.

Thank you, and I wish you all a successful summer.
