The Department of Health extends its sincere gratitude to Dr. Roy McKay for leading a comprehensive Fit Test Training session on 21 October 2025 at Bermuda College. The training equipped staff from the Department of Health, long-term care facilities, Corrections, and Bermuda College with essential skills in respirator fit testing—critical for ensuring effective protection against airborne hazards.
Fit Test Training, which includes both qualitative and quantitative methods, is vital for maintaining safety standards in healthcare and other high-risk environments. Dr. McKay’s expert instruction covered OSHA-compliant procedures for testing, donning, and maintaining respirators such as N95 masks.
Minister of Health, Kim Wilson, emphasized the importance of collaboration: “The Department of Health recognizes that partnership and cooperation are key to achieving high standards of care in occupational health and safety. This training demonstrated how cross-sector collaboration can strengthen capacity, efficiency, and preparedness across Bermuda’s Public Health sector. We extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. McKay for his professionalism and commitment to excellence.”
Chief Nursing Officer, Lynn Jackson, added: “Dr. McKay’s thorough preparation and engaging delivery provided invaluable knowledge and practical experience. His dedication to sharing best practices in respiratory protection will enhance our ability to safeguard the health and safety of Bermuda’s workforce.”
Fit testing not only ensures consistency in protective practices but also supports pandemic preparedness and builds a resilient health system capable of responding swiftly to airborne threats. The Department of Health thanks all contributors to the success of this training and looks forward to continued partnerships that promote a healthier, safer Bermuda.
